Latvian national team goalie Edgars Masalskis, who has been without a club since the end of last season, has signed with Slovakian ice hockey club ''Poprad'', the Slovakian hockey news portal ''Hokejportal.net'' reports, cites LETA.

Masalskis has been without a club this whole season, but has been practicing individually and staying in shape. He has also played in several exhibition games for the national team.

The veteran goalie has also been included on Latvia's Olympic roster, and hopes to get back into good playing condition by the Olympics.

At the moment, ''Poprad'' is in fifth place in the Slovakian league with 64 points from 41 matches.

The 33-year-old Masalskis played for Russian ice hockey club Khanty-Mansiysk ''Yugra'' in the KHL the previous three seasons, but before that played two seasons for Riga ''Dinamo''.

Masalskis has been Latvia's first-string goalie for the past several years, but is expected to be the second-string goalie at the Olympics behind youngster Kristers Gudlevskis, who is currently playing in the AHL.
