Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople visits Estonia

Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople will arrive on a week-long visit to Estonia this Wednesday, at the invitation of President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, LETA/Eesti Päevaleht writes.

 

President Ilves invited him to Estonia personally, when he visited Constantinople a couple of years ago, the daily claims. Patriarch Bartholomew I is scheduled to meet President Ilves during the visit.

 

"On the one hand, it is a state visit, on the other hand, pastoral – the patriarch timed his visit to the year when Estonia celebrates the 90th anniversary of the Apostolic Church," said Tauri Tölpt, assistant of the Metropolitan Stephanus of Tallinn and all of Estonia.

 

Patriarch Bartholomew's visits Estonia for the second time, the first time he visited Estonia in 2000.

 

Estonia has two Orthodox churches – Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church subject to the Constantinople's patriarchy and Moscow Patriarchy Estonian Orthodox Church.
