Premier of opera Tannhauser in Estonia on March 14

Premier of Wagner's opera Tannhauser, the story of how people struggle to fulfill dreams in process losing touch with the reality, is scheduled on March 14 at Estonian National Opera, LETA/Tallinn.ee reported.

 

World premiere in Dresden Hoftheater on October 19, 1845.

 

The opera is part history, part myth and all magical realism. The opera belongs to the composer's romantic middle stage of his creative career.

 

Tannhauser was Wagner's first musical drama. Today the most famous melodies from Tannhauser are the Pilgrims' Chorus and Wolfram's aria "O du mein holder Abendstern" from Act 3.


Tannhauser was the first ever Wagner’s opera performed in Estonia at the Revaler Theater during the season 1853/54. The opera has been staged twice at the National Opera Estonia in 1930 and in 1942.

 

Conductors of the staging are Vello Pahn, Juri Alperten, Mihhail Gerts, staging director: Daniel Slater (England), designer: Leslie Travers (England) and lighting designer: Anton Kulagin.
