Latvian Embassy in Estonia organizes "Poetry Ride 2008"

BC, Tallinn, 03.07.2008.Print version

This year "Poetry Ride 2008", organized jointly by the Latvian Embassy in Estonia, the Estonian Institute and the Finnish Institute, starts in Helsinki. The first readings are planned on July 4, at the Linnanmaki open-air stage in Helsinki, as LETA learned from Latvian Embassy in Estonia.

Poets from Latvia, Estonia and Finland will go on a ride through all the three countries, reading poetry in all three languages. This year poets Eduards Aivars and Agnese Krivade will represent Latvia in the "Poetry Ride", other poets will be Karl Martin Sinijarv and Eva Parkka from Estonia, and Claes Andersson and Anja Eramaja from Finland.

Motion is event's special trait, the ride changes location every year and each time different poets are featured.

After the performance in Helsinki, the bus will head for Estonia, where poetry readings will take place on July 7, at culture center "Kannel" in Veru and on July 8 at Valga's culture center. "Poetry Ride" will end on July 8 in Latvia, in the guest house "Alkas" in the vicinity of Valmiera (Vidzeme Province).

This "festival-on-wheels" was established two years ago by the Latvian Embassy in Estonia in conjunction with the Finnish Institute in Estonia and the Estonian Institute.

It takes place in all three countries, in a different city each year.
