Banking statistics published today indicate that the portfolio of loans issued to companies and households continued to grow rapidly in July, as did deposits, though other economic indicators point more towards slower growth in the economy. There has been slightly slower growth in new loans issued this year, but July was something of an exception to this.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2019, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries increased by 3% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2018. Similarly to the 1st quarter, construction volume increased due to work done in foreign countries, whereas construction volume on the domestic market decreased.

Active construction is currently underway in the D-terminal of the Port of Tallinn being built by Nordecon, in order to open the first phase of construction of the renovated D-terminal to passengers within two months. A digital twin of the new D-Terminal building and the remodeled part which aims to make the building's life cycle more efficient was created in the BIM implementation model. The completion of the extension and reconstruction work of the port is scheduled for summer 2020, Peeter Nogu, chief infrastructure development officer at the listed port company Tallinna Sadam, said.

486 kg of municipal waste generated per person in EU

The amount of municipal waste generated per person in the European Union (EU) in 2017 is estimated to amount to 486 kg. This figure is unchanged from 2016 and is 7% below the peak of 525 kg per person in 2002, informed Eurostat.

Drug wholesalers raise turnover in Latvia by 26% in July

In July 2019, drug wholesalers sold EUR 39.36 mln worth (including VAT) of medicines in Latvia, which is an increase of 26.22% against the same period a year ago and a 5.29 % rise against June 2019, according to information from the State Agency of Medicines writes LETA.
