In 2017, Latvian unemployment rate fell to 8.7%

Results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that 85.4 thousand people aged 15–74 were unemployed in 2017. Compared to 2016, the number of unemployed persons has dropped by 9.9 thousand or 10.4%. Last year, Latvian unemployment rate constituted 8.7%, which is 0.9 percentage points lower than in 2016. Unemployment rate among females still was lower than among males – 7.7% and 9.8%, respectively.

Port of Tallinn may start construction of cruise terminal in 2018

Valdo Kalm, CEO of the state-owned port company Port of Tallinn (AS Tallinna Sadam), said that it is possible that the construction of a terminal servicing cruise passengers will also be started in the framework of the development work of the Old Harbor at the end of this year and that the estimated cost of the construction is a couple of million euros, reports LETA/BNS.

Lithuania fails to improve its corruption perception ranking

Lithuania failed to improve its position in the latest Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International on February 21st, cites LETA/BNS. Lithuania ranked 38th out of 180 countries surveyed in the annual index, unchanged from last year. This puts Lithuania ahead of Latvia, but behind Poland and Estonia.
