"I can confirm this information. The patient is a man back from a business trip in the Netherlands," Lina Businskaite, a spokesman for the health minister, told LETA/BNS. 

The man developed fever and sough medical help after returning from Holland on March 13 and is currently being treated in isolation in a Panevezys hospital, the government said later. 

"The patient is in good condition. His contacts have been identified and isolated, too," it said in a press release early on Sunday.   

"To reassure everyone, we can say that they are family members who are in self-isolation. There are no other contacts." 

As part of efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus, the government has announced a nationwide quarantine that will come into effect on Monday. 

The quarantine measures include closing borders to foreigners and banning Lithuanians from leaving the country, as well as shutting down cafes and non-essential shops, and cancelling church services.

Earlier this week, the government closed schools, kindergartens and universities. 

Globally, more than 155,000 cases of the COVID-19 infection have been reported, 5,800 people have died, and 72,500 have recovered.
