Lithuanians categorically refuse to live in rented housing

Unlike in many other European countries, long-term rent is not acceptable to Lithuanians, informs LETA/ELTA.

80.2% of Lithuanians want to live in their own house or apartment and only 13.6% of Lithuanians, under favorable conditions, would agree to renting housing for a long term, 15 or more years, a consumer survey conducted by project kurgyvenu.lt reveals.

63.8% of respondents, who are renting housing at present, claim that they live in rented housing since they do not have a possibility to purchase their own flat or house currently. 11.7% of those polled indicated that they were renting since they were accumulating savings for the initial payment to purchase house or flat (9.6%) or since they were looking for the best purchase option (2.1%).

The rest respondents said they rented housing since they stayed temporarily in the place, where they lived (16%), they were studying (4.3%) or thought that renting is cheaper than taking out a loan from a bank (4.3%).
