Today, in honor of Latvia's participation in this summer's Olympics in London, the northern side of New York's Empire State Building will be lit up in the colors of the Latvian flag, LETA was informed by Latvia's Honorary Consul in New York Daris Gunars Delins.

The skyscraper has been lit up in the colors of various national flags participating in the Olympics since July 26.

Also on August 7, the facade will be bathed in the colors of the Colombian, Uzbekistan and Ethiopian flags.

The Empire State Building is frequently illuminated for special events. The legendary New York landmark, which was constructed in the 1930's, featured the colors of the U.S. flag for the first time in 1976, when the country celebrated its 200th birthday.
