The area is currently being cleaned up and scrutinized by engineers. The construction project was drawn up so that Riga residents and guests be affected as little as possible by the construction activity in the downtown, said LETA Matulis.
Construction of the hotel will start in October and conclude in 2010.
The designs for the hotel were drawn up by architect Ugis Senbergs.
Happy Trails first mentioned building a hotel in the area several years ago. It is planned that the two-star hotel will have 260-275 rooms, the first floor, 750 square meters in area, will house several retail outlets.
Happy Trails bought the land plot at 24/26 Elizabetes Street in 2004 for over LVL 1 million.
