Russian citizens bought 250 properties in Estonia in 2015

In 2015 Russian citizens bought 250 real properties in Estonia which is 74.8 percent less than two years before when Russian citizens bought 994 real properties in Estonia, the daily Eesti Paevaleht reports, writes LETA/BNS.

A partner at Pindi Kinnisvara real estate company Peep Sooman told the newspaper that the money coming from the east has declined substantially as a result of tough economic conditions and investing outside Russia not being among the priorities of Russians.

An analyst at Uus Maa real estate agency, Risto Vahi, said that the price of the Russian rouble has declined and therefore people are trying to save their money as well as help the Russian economy.

According to Sooman there are basically two types of Russians who buy property in Estonia -- the so-called real investors who want to do real business here and the ones who just want to own real estate inside the Schengen area so they can get a Schengen visa more easily.

The number of real properties owned by Russians sold in 2015 totaled 427 which is much more than the 323 properties sold in 2013.
