Estonian households made record cuts in spending in 2009

The Bank of Estonia stated that Estonian households have never before made such forceful adjustments in their consumption as during the year 2009, writes LETA/Postimees Online. Mostly the households abandoned major purchases: cars, clothes, audio, video and phone equipment, noted the central bank in its overview “Monetary Policy and Economy”.

Latvian State Radio and Television Center: contract not concluded with TV3

At the end of the working day yesterday, the Latvian State Radio and Television Center (LSRTC) received an answer from the TV company TV3 Latvia to its offer of a new tariff for analogue broadcasting rights; however, it has not yet been examined and no contract has been concluded, the business portal Nozare.lv was informed last night by LSRTC Public Relations Director Ieva Line.

Baltika will restructure its retail chain

Estonia’s poshest fashion company Baltika, which suffers from chronic shortage of funds, has embarked on restructuring its store chain to get out of the crisis, LETA/Eesti Päevaleht writes. The business of Baltika that operates the Monton, Mosaic, Baltman and Ivo Nikkolo retail chains expanded in the boom years like yeast, the daily writes.

Freeport of Riga is waiting for Brazilian food cargoes

Brazilian Minister for Ports and delegation of entrepreneurs came to Latvia on a working visit and on May 7 were introduced with the possibilities of the Port of Riga to reload the main Brazilian export product – sugar, as well as possibilities of other terminals so that in the perspective the Port of Riga could be used also for logistics of other food cargoes, including frozen products.

Producer prices in Latvian industry increased by 2.2% in April 2010

Compared to March 2010, producer prices in Latvian industry in April 2010 increased by 2.2%, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. Over a year (compared to April 2009) producer prices in industry increased by 0.5%.

Estonian security services market fell by nearly a fifth in 2009

According to the Estonian Association of Security Services Companies, the total volume of the Estonian security products and services market was around 1.86 billion kroons in 2009, a fall by 17.7% from 2008, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Coca-Cola shifts production to Lithuania

Coca-Cola Baltics has confirmed that it has shut down its production facility in Estonia, and has moved it to Lithuania. The company said it has not produced any Coca-Cola brands in Estonia since end-April 2010, leading to the loss of 63 jobs in the country, informs LETA/Baltic Business News.

German Business Award in Lithuania 2010 will be held on May 27

For the fifth time the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (AHK) will confer a sponsorship award on behalf of the German economy to Lithuanian companies. The award will be presented on 27 May 2010, 19:00, at a solemn evening reception at the Verslo Centras, Vilniaus g. 31 / Islandijos g. 1, in Vilnius. "Double Coffee" opens in Sochi its first restaurant in Russia

The Latvian company DC Holding, the owner of the "Double Coffee" chain of cafe restaurants, has concluded a long-term agreement on opening a "Double Coffee" restaurant in the Russian city of Sochi, the chain's first restaurant in Russia, the business portal Nozare.lv was informed by DC Holding Franchising Department Director Juris Roganovs.
