Latvian daily newspapers have become 5 santims more expensive

Today, after the holidays, with the increase of the value-added tax (VAT) rate, newspapers in Latvia have become 5 santims more expensive.

The only newspaper that has not increased its price is ''Latvijas Avize'', which remains 39 santims.

 

Newspaper ''Diena'' now costs 55 santims (previously 50 santims), ''Neatkariga Rita Avize'' now costs 50 santims (previously 45 santims), reports LETA.

 

Russian language newspaper ''Vesti Sevodna'' now costs 40 santims (previously 35 santims), whilst ''Cas'' now costs 35 santims (previously 30 santims).

 

As reported, as of January 1, the regular value-added tax rate in Latvia is set at 21%, instead of the previous 18% and the reduced VAT rate increases from five to ten%, according to the amendments to the law on the VAT rates.
