Sports Direct International buys majority stake in Estonian Sportland

The leading British sporting goods retailer Sports Direct International announced on Wednesday of concluding an agreement for buying 60% of Estonian sporting goods retailer Sportland International Group, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Sportland International Group operates Sportland, Sportland Outlet, Timberland, O’Neill, Nike and Nike Outlet store chains in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In 2012, the sales revenue of Sportland International Group was 61.6 million euros, he group owned 80 stores with net sales space of 39,000 square metres.

 

Sportland International Group includes also AS Jalajälg, official importer of Nike products in the Baltic States.

 

"With the experiences and financial support of Sports Direct, we can expand our product selection further, implement more innovation and strengthen our positions in the Baltic states," said Sportland International Group co-founder Are Altraja.

 

Sports Direct International CEO Dave Forsey said that it is a strategic investment in the fast-growing Baltic region that marks continuation of European expansion plans of the company.
