Majority of food products in Estonian stores are of Estonian origin

The majority of food products sold in Estonian stores are of Estonian origin while there are some notable exceptions too, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The share of local food is highest in the dairy (87%), meat products (72%), non-alcoholic beverages (71%) and groats (68%) sectors.

 

The share of locally produced food is the smallest among food oil (43%), fruits and vegetables (46%) and fish products (47%), a study commissioned by the Estonian agriculture ministry indicated.

 

400 companies participated in the study, 240 of them producers of food products and non-alcoholic beverages and 160 retail trade companies.
