Lithuanian leaders extend condolences over death of business magnate Lubys

Highest Lithuanian officials are extending their condolences over the death of Bronislovas Lubys, member of the Supreme Council – Reconstituent Seimas, Independence Act signatory, former prime minister, active public figure, politicians and businessmen.

"Bronislovas Lubys was one of the most active founders and developers of the Lithuanian industry, he significantly contributed to the development and promotion of Lithuanian chemistry science, was the author of numerous inventions, published many articles, was a lecturer and a scientist. He contributed a lot to the education of young scientists. As a sign of gratitude, he was conferred a name of honorary doctor at Kaunas Technology University and Klaipeda University. Culture and art people will long remember Lubys for his active patronizing, his support and attention to cultural events, publishing and art development in Lithuania. Lubys was a deputy of the Supreme Council, prime minister, active public figure, politician and businessmen who aimed at strengthening Lithuania's economic power and developing ties with foreign countries. He would take part not only in the economic, but also in the public political life. For his activities, Lubys was conferred different important Lithuanian and foreign awards," says Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite in her letter of condolences.

 

"On behalf of the Seimas and on my own behalf, I would like to offer sincere condolences over the sudden and untimely death of March 11 Act signatory, former head of the government, president of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists Bronislovas Lubys to the family and loved-ones of the late, his friends and colleagues and to all who were saddened by the news. Although only the history will tell us what was the real importance of Bronislovas Lubys' work and efforts, even today this personality's contribution to the development of newly independent Lithuania is beyond any doubt (&) Lithuania has lost an active public figure, a person who cared about the presence and the future of his homeland," Seimas Speaker Irena Degutiene says in her letter of condolences.

 

President of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, head of one of the biggest Lithuanian company Achema Group Bronislovas Lubys (73) died Sunday in Druskininkai town. It is thought that the businessmen died because of a heart failure.
