Tolerance of coalescence of business and politics suggests a low level of political culture, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite says. The head of state stated that she did not trust Economy Minister Dainius Kreivys, saying that a politician could not be a businessman at once.

"This issue is a wider one; it is an issue of our political culture and political transparency. If coalescence of business and politics is tolerated in Lithuania, it shows a very low level of our political culture. I say it once and again that our tolerance for non-transparency, corruption, other negative things, is a very bad example saying that our political culture is indeed of a very low level," Grybauskaite told reporters on Thursday.

Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius expresses his support to Economy Minister Kreivys consistenly. The economy minister's activities were brought in the spotlight after part of EU funds to the renovation of schools was allocated to the company Specializuota Komplektavimo Valdyba, in which Kreivys' mother holds a stake, writes LETA/ELTA.

Kreivys himself claimed that he faced a smear campaign.
