Number of TV and radio commercials increased in Latvia in 2010

In 2010, the number of television and radio commercials increased in Latvia, while the number of advertisements in newspapers and magazines decreased, compared to 2009, according to a study carried out by the market, social and media research company TNS Latvia.

Latvian TV channels showed 500,350 minutes of commercials last year, which is 21% more than in 2009, when 420,658 minutes of commercials were shown. TNS Latvia registered 1,317,849 commercials in 2010, which is 22% more than in 2009, when 1,077,889 commercials were registered, writes LETA.

 

Last year's volume of TV commercials is significantly higher than in 2008, and it only slightly falls behind the record number of TV commercials in 2007. The 2007 record will most likely fall in 2012, said TNS Latvia Senior Account Manager Oskars Rumpeters.

 

The number of advertisements in newspapers decreased 9%. The advertisements covered 6 million square centimeters of newspaper pages, while in 2009 – 6.5 million. 63,932 advertisements were published, which is 5% less then in 2009, when the number of advertisements was 67,041.

 

The amount of advertisements in magazines decreased 0.02%. The advertisements covered 7.22 square centimeters of magazine pages. 19,022 advertisements were published in 2010, which is a 5% decrease, compared to 2009 – 20,110.

 

Latvian radios broadcast 188,018 minutes of commercials last year, which is 2% more than in 2009, when 184,041 minutes of commercials were broadcast. The number of commercials on the radios has increased 0.2%, reaching 406,914 commercials, compared to 405,457 commercials in 2009.
