Lithuanian Association of Physicians announced that doctors of Lithuania have little motivation to work in their homeland, LETA/ELTA reports, referring to lrt.lt. As the Association's representatives noted, currently Lithuanian doctors are looking for employment in Latvian, Belarus, Russian and Ukrainian clinics.

Germany and majority of other European Union member states, state that they are open to employ qualified physicians from other countries due to the lack of specialists; however, the same problem is topical in Lithuania as well. At the same time, Lithuanian Association of Physicians notes that there is little or no chance of inflow of doctors from foreign countries to Lithuania.

As the Association's head, the professor Liutauras Labanauskas stated, physicians in Lithuania are less motivated for work due to poor social guarantees, low payroll, and unfavorable working conditions.

Besides, the doctors' union forecasts that the shortage of good specialists in Lithuania's health-care institutions will be more acute in 5 or 10 years.
