"While at the beginning of 2008, there were 91 gambling venues in Tallinn, today there are 33,” said the city’s entrepreneurship department price and consumer protection service director Aave Jürgen.
“The whole gambling sector is not becoming completely extinct but as compared to the glory times, only a third of casinos are still operating and most likely it will stay that way for a while,” said Estonian Gambling Organisers Association managing director Tõnis Rüütel.
Rüütel said that several unfavourable factors occurred at the same time, first the economic reasons that affected all companies and second, administrative measures that were enforced with the new gambling law in 2008. A part of restrictions came in force on January 1, 2009, a part on January 1, 2010.
