In October 2017, the average milk purchase price in Latvia had increased by 31% compared to October 2016, writes LETA, according to the preliminary figures released by the Latvian Central Dairy Association (LPCS).

The association's board chairman, Janis Solks, said that the milk purchase price averaged at EUR 327 per ton in October this year, slightly growing from the previous month.

Solks projected that the milk purchase might drop somewhat in November, but said it was too early to make any predictions for December. Much will depend on the unpredictable situation in the global market, the head of the association said.

In his words, the amount of milk purchased by the dairy sector in October remained roughly unchanged from the same month a year ago.

The Latvian Central Dairy Association unites dairy companies and business partners, selling some 80% of the dairy products made in Latvia.
