Lithuanian parlt raises legal alcohol drinking age to 20

BC, Vilnius, 01.06.2017.Print version
Young people under the age of 20 will not be allowed to buy or drink alcoholic beverages in Lithuania starting next year, reports LETA/BNS.

In an article-by-article voting on amendments to the Law on Alcohol Control, the Seimas on Thursday rejected a proposal to leave the minimum legal drinking age unchanged at 18.

The parliament is yet to hold a final vote on the entire bill.

Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga told lawmakers that it is only a matter of time before Poland, Latvia and Estonia follow suit and make it illegal for anyone under the age of 20 to drink alcohol.
