Lithuania's Kauno Grudai looks to process grain in Estonia
BC, Vilnius, 18.11.2016.Print version
Lithuania's agricultural product processing company Kauno Grudai (Kaunas Grain) has established a subsidiary in Estonia and is looking to start processing grain in that country, the LETA/BNS recorded according to Verslo Zinios information.
KG Eesti currently sells products for animal and plant
farms. However, the company may open a compound feed production facility in
Estonia in the future and it does not rule out acquiring an existing factory.
Kauno Grudai CEO Tautvydas Barstys says that the
Kaunas-based company purchases around 0.5 mln tons of grain annually, a part of
which comes from Latvian and Estonian farms and is then processed or exported
as raw material.
The difference between grain purchase and sale prices is
relatively low, which makes the cost of transporting it from Latvia and Estonia
to Lithuania too high. All the more so because grain can be exported via the
ports of Tallinn, Riga or Ventspils.
