Nota Bene agrees to return money to Lithuanian army for costly kitchen utensils

BC, Vilnius, 13.09.2016.Print version
Nota Bene, a local company, agrees to return the money that the Lithuanian Armed Forces paid for costly kitchen utensils, dubbed by the media as "golden spoons", and to take the items back from warehouses, reports LETA/BNS.

"The company understands that this topic is harmful to the Lithuanian military and is not helpful for the company and it simply agrees to not escalate this issue," Marius Rindinas, a lawyer representing Nota Bene, told reporters on Tuesday.

He confirmed that Nota Bene agrees to return around 4,000 euros paid by the military for the kitchen utensils. However, the company declines to cancel the 174,000-euro field kitchen equipment contract, signed in 2014, as a whole as it has already been implemented.

The contract was signed as part of an earlier-signed preliminary agreement, worth 1.6 mln euros, on the supply of spare parts and equipment for field kitchens.

Rindinas said that Nota Bene is ready to cancel the preliminary agreement.

"This morning, we invited the Lithuanian Armed Forces to try and resolve the situation by strictly complying with the law and through dialog and with the involvement of officials from the Defense Ministry and the Public Procurement Office," the lawyer said.

Nota Bene Director Andrius Jazgevicius also confirmed that the company suspended cooperation with Germany's Karcher, the manufacturer of the field kitchen equipment, after receiving a letter from Germany's Karcher Futuretech a week ago.
