Estonia is one of the European Union member states the most successfully implementing the rules of the EU common market, whereas one of the areas where Estonia has room for improvement is public procurements, writes LETA/BNS.

In addition to assessing member states' compliance with single market law, the scoreboard published on Monday evaluates how they help citizens and businesses via various EU tools for general information and job search. The scoreboard also monitors member states' openness to trade and investment and their wider efforts in opening up sectors such as public procurement, professional qualifications or postal services.

Taking all these evaluated areas into account, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Ireland and Slovakia performed best, the Commission said.

In general, Estonia observes the rules and principles of the common market well and the number of infringement proceedings concerning Estonia is one of the lowest in the EU. Problems remain in Estonia with public procurements. Among other things, procurements with a single tenderer made up 22% of all procurements in Estonia last year.

Overall in the EU, members of the public, businesses, NGOs and other organizations remained very active in reporting potential breaches of EU law in 2015. However, the number of new complaints fell for the first time since 2011, by around 9% against 2014.
