Furniture industry professionals say that Sweden's Ikea, one of the biggest buyers, has brought a new business culture to Lithuania's furniture sector, the business daily Verslo Zinios reported on Wednesday, cites LETA/BNS.

"All manufacturers that wanted to cooperate with the group had to make changes," Raimundas Beinortas, director of the Lietuvos Mediena (Lithuanian Wood) association, told the paper, describing the experience and requirements of Ikea as a large customer as a very positive thing.

Antanas Emuzis, CEO of the furniture production company Freda, said, "It was with the help of this buyer that Freda has streamlined its operations. The group has put a lot of effort into this. Its staff advised us a lot and worked with us a lot to help us change."

"Generally speaking, the group's specialists have brought global corporate governance guidelines to the Lithuanian furniture industry. I believe other manufacturers would confirm that too. The buyer is very innovative and good corporate governance practices have come to Lithuania along with it," he said.
