In 2014, the "Staro Riga" festival of light was attended by about 500,000 visitors, which is an all-time record, Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs said, cites LETA.

As reported, the festival took place for the seventh time already. It began on November 14 and continued through November 18.

This year, the festival was divided in two parts – the main part, which showcased "Staro Riga 2014" main objects, and the public participation campaign "Riga Carnival", which included objects made by the festival's cooperation partners and members of the public.

The main festival objects were internationally-acclaimed video installations, projections, "mapping" and lighting objects, or objects created specifically for the festival. The festival's main part included artworks by artists from Latvia, Lithuania, England, France, Canada, Portugal, and other countries.

This year, "Staro Riga" was the largest festival of light in Northern Europe.
