Alfor, the owner the "Fenikss" gaming halls chain in Latvia, was the leading company in Latvian tourism, hospitality and recreation industry last year with EUR 51.71 million in turnover, according to the Latvian Business Annual Report 2014 prepared by "Firmas.lv" and business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

Gaming company Olympic Casino Latvia placed second with turnover of EUR 34.16 million and catering company Lido third with turnover of EUR 29.72 million.

The Top 10 also includes Premier Restaurants Latvia – turnover of EUR 29.63 million, Joker Ltd. – EUR 23.16 million, Tez Tour – EUR 21.58 million, Viesnica Latvija – EUR 21.18 million, Latvijas Loto – EUR 19.45 million, Novatours – EUR 18.96 million, Admiralu klubs – EUR 18.25 million.

The Latvian Business Annual Report also notes that Latvian hotels and other accommodation establishments served a total of 1.8 million guests last year, which is 14 percent more than in 2012.

On the other hand, Lido posted record-high turnover last year, whereas the gaming industry was affected by more stringent government regulations under which unlicensed gaming websites on the Internet were to be shut down.

During the past few years, a great number of important events took place in Latvia – concerts, festivals, a major regatta, sports events, and a number of tourist attractions opened, all of which contributed to travelers' interest in Latvia. In 2014, Latvia became a member of the euro area, which made traveling to and from Latvia more convenient. Popularization of Latvia at the key tourism fairs as well as local tourism campaigns were also very important, notes the Association of Latvian Travel Agents and Operators President Kitija Gitendorfa.
