"The first day for the library was full of emotional experiences – we are glad about the visitors' genuine interest, compliments about the functionality and aesthetics of the interior, the artistic environment and services that we can offer to readers. Of course, our joy was clouded by the technical problems with the panoramic elevator. Nevertheless, we want to thank the visitors for their patience and we apologize for the inconvenience that was caused by this incident. The "Palace of Light" continues to operate and people are welcome to visit," LNL Director Andris Vilks said.

As reported, yesterday, 22 people were trapped in a stalled elevator between the first and second floors of the building. In order to provide oxygen for those trapped inside, firefighters had to knock out a glass pane. They then created a hole through which the 22 crawled out one-by-one.
