Annual Latvian Literature Awards go to Pujats, Zalite and Jonevs

The annual Latvian Literature Awards ceremony yesterday honored the best Latvian authors – the award for the best poetry collection went to Marts Pujats for his "Nak gasma pati lampa" (The Lamp Enters the Light), informs LETA.

Mara Zalite was awarded for the best prose work, "Pieci pirksti" (Five Fingers), whereas Janis Jonevs with his prose work "Jelgava'94" took the award for the best debut.

 

Luize Pastore took the award as the best children's writer for her "Maskackas stasts" (The Maskachka Story).

 

The award winners received diplomas, statuettes designed by the "Majo" design studio, and cash prizes.

 

In total, there were over seventy contenders for the awards.

 

The jury included critic and translator Ieva Kolmane, poet Anna Auzina, portal "satori.lv" editor Ilmars Slapins, writer Dace Ruksane-Scipcinska, poet Ronalds Briedis, translator Ieva Lesinska-Geibere, poet and translator Janis Vadons, literature critic Raimonds Briedis, and poet Arvis Viguls.
