More overnight stays registered in Tallinn in H1

The first half of 2013 saw a significant rise in overnight stays in Tallinn’s accommodation establishments with 10,200 additional guests in comparison to the 2012 figures from the same period, reported LETA the Statistics Department of the Tallinn Tourism Board.

The new data reflects an 11-% growth in Estonian visitors' overnight stays and the growing interest of visitors from neighboring countries. 63% of all guests came from Russia and Finland, with the most significant drop among British (-28%), Norwegian (-21%) and German (-18%) tourists. Overall, 683 800 tourists visited Tallinn, showing a 2% surge.

 

The majority of international guests visited Tallinn for leisure (73%), business (21%), conferences (5%) and for other travel purposes (2%).

 

The 2013 bi-annual report shows a drop in the length of stay among the international visitors while the average remains at 1.83. The occupancy rate reached an average of 56%.

 

Similarly to last year, Tallinn guests spent 1,241,600 nights in Tallinn accommodation establishments, with a one per cent drop in international numbers (1,103,900 nights). The average cost of a night was 39 euros, which has increased by 5% from last year.

 

Changes in flight destinations reduced the number of tourists from distant European regions. Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport saw over 900,000 (-13%) air travellers, and over four million (+4%) visitors passed through the Old City Harbour with the number of cruise passengers growing by 25%.
