The laboratory will conduct research on hydrogen use for fuel production in Lithuania and on environmentally friendly fuel production technology. It will explore modern methods of hydrogen application as fuel or fuel supplement. It also plans to conduct research on incorporating hydrogen into natural gas, to determine the best proportions for the fuel to be used in vehicles powered by natural gas.
It is projected that from 2016-2017 the laboratory will begin research on higher richness hydromethane mixtures, possibilities of hydrogen use as an additive to various fuels (petrol, diesel), examine effective non-polluting and cheap ways to produce hydrogen.
According to SG Dujos Auto Director Vidas Korsakas, the laboratory aims to develop experimental hydromethane production modules which could be easily introduced to petrol stations and public transportation infrastructure, and in the long-term to begin industrial hydromethane production.
After the project is implemented it is expected to export commercial hydromethane production modules abroad.
The work on the laboratory project began in 2012. The total cost of the project is LTL 7.6 million (EUR 2.2 million), LTL 5.3 million (EUR 1.5 million) is provided by the European Union Structural Funds.
