The number of creative industry companies has more than doubled over ten years in Estonia and kept growing during the economic crisis too, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

While in the year 2000, there were 3,200 culture sector units in Estonia, in 2010, there were 7,700, creative industry development centre Loov Eesti cited Statistics Estonia. The number of companies and organisations grew in all cultures sector spheres.

The number of visual arts entrepreneurs grew fastest, 68 times to 1,700 units by 2010. That was followed by performance arts and printed word units. The number of units of handicrafts grew the least, from 90 to 130.

Loov Eesti CEO Eva Leemet said that the figures show that awareness of creative industry has increased and creative people who so far acted alone and as freelancers have started to be more active in business.
