Liepaja Port cargo turnover grew by 8.5% in January-February

Liepaja Port handled 759,629 tons of cargo during the first two months of the year 2011, which is 8.5% more than over the same period last year, as Liepaja Special Economic Zone's public relations manager Liga Ratniece-Kadege informed LETA.

General cargo made up the largest part of the cargo turnover at Liepaja Port – 48%.

 

In February, Liepaja Port handled 193,300 tons of general cargo, which is 8.6% more than in February 2010. The amount of general cargo increased thanks to growing amounts of timber, scrap metal, ferrous metals, ro-ro cargo handled at the port, as well as Liepaja-Travemunde ferry line.

 

132,700 tons of bulk cargo and 47,500 tons of liquid cargo were reloaded at the port in February. Altogether, 373,511 tons of cargo were handled at Liepaja Port in February. 113 ships and 1,315 passengers visited the port.

 

The largest amount of cargo was handled by the Liepajas Osta LM company – 139,914 tons of cargo, which is 13.4% more than in February 2010.
