Kristovskis discussed possible extraction of shale gas in Latvia during U.S. visit

Print versionDuring a press conference informing on the results of his recent visit to the United States today, Foreign Minister Girts Valdis Kristovskis told members of the press that he discussed the possibility of extracting shale gas in Latvia with the support of U.S. companies.

The Latvian foreign minister said that geological indicators point out that shale gas is ''located under most of Latvia's territory'', writes LETA.
''The U.S. has information on shale gas deposits throughout the world. If detailed geological probes are successful, we will be able to extract this gas from Latvia's territory,'' Kristovskis believes.
As reported, Kristovskis went on a work visit to the United States from February 19 to 23.
