Latvia's top-ranked tennis player Alona Ostapenko on Tuesday advanced to the Wimbledon Championship's semifinals for the first time in her career, LETA/BNS reported.

Last year's French Open champion, Ostapenko defeated Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova 7-5, 6-4 in their quarterfinal match today.

Ostapenko has earned 780 WTA ranking points for reaching the Wimbledon Championship's semifinals.

Ostapenko is currently ranked 12th in the WTA rankings, while Cibulkova is in 33rd place.

In the semifinals, Ostapenko will play with former world No. 1 Angelique Kerber of Germany, who is currently ranked tenth in the WTA rankings.

Today, Ostapenko had five aces and made four double faults, as compared to Cibulkova's one ace and five double faults.

Last year, Ostapenko reached Wimbledon Championship's quarterfinals where she lost to Venus Williams. Back in 2014, she scored the girls' title.
