Mikhail Baryshnikov gets Japan Art Association award

Latvian-born world-famous Russian ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov is among the winners of the Praemium Imperiale, the annual awards of the Japan Art Association, informs LETA/AFP.
Other awardees, who will each get the EUR 117,000 prize this year, are
Senegalese music star Youssou N'Dour,
Iranian artist Shirin Neshat,
Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui and
Spanish architect Rafael Moneo.
Every year since 1989, the Praemium Imperiale has been awarded in five
different disciplines - music, painting, sculpture, architecture and
theatre/film.
The awards were created in 1988 in honor of the late Japanese Prince
Takamatsu, who served as honorary patron of the private association for 58
years until his death in 1987.
The prizes will be awarded at a ceremony in Tokyo on October 18.
Latvian violinist and the founder of Kremerata Baltica orchestra, Gidons
Kremers, was among the winners of the Praemium Imperiale last year.
