Latvia has received the bronze award from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) for its pavilion at Astana Expo 2017 exhibition in the category of designs of small pavilions, the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK) reported LETA.

LTRK underscored that this is the first time in Expo history that Latvia’s pavilion has received such an award and recognition.

According to tradition, the BIE awarded medals to organizations, persons and participant countries’ pavilions for extraordinary efforts in implementation of Expo 2017. Awards were presented in different categories and Latvia received the bronze award in the category of pavilions with a floor space below 400 square meters.

"Even though Latvia is one of the few countries who is not yet a member of the BIE, this has been the biggest achievement in history since Latvia has been participating in Expo fairs, and the award increased interest of other countries in our pavilion," said Latvia’s pavilion director Ansis Egle.

LTRK said that Latvia’s pavilion was attended by 260,000 people which is three time more than expected earlier. Representatives from more than 30 companies went to Kazakhstan, more than 50 business meetings, seminars, and conferences were organized.

As reported, the expo's theme this year was "Future Energy", and it was aimed to concentrate on the future of energy and on innovative and practical energy solutions and their impacts. Latvia's exposition laid the emphasis on the development of transport and logistics.

The pavilion of Latvia was called “Energy in Our Nature”. Latvia demonstrated advantages of its geographical location and ways to create added value with Latvian companies and high-level experts in various areas.
