Latgales Bekons ASF-affected farm to launch meat processing plant
BC, Riga, 11.08.2017.Print version
Latgales Bekons, the pig farm stricken by the African swine fever, in the nearest time plans to launch meat processing plant, the Daugavpils county council reported LETA.
At present the company is in negotiations with pig breeding associations
and potential suppliers, looking for local meat producers.
As reported, African swine fever has been detected at the joint-stock
Latvian ham and bacon producer Latvijas Bekons. The farm itself held
approximately 6,000 pigs which had to be liquidated.
After the 40-day quarantine period the farm will be tested for presence of
the virus. The company though is not sure whether it will continue growing pigs
or completely switch to meat processing.
