Revenue of confectionery co Kalev up 6.9% to EUR 46.7 mln in 2016

The sales revenue of the Estonian confectionery maker Kalev owned by the Norwegian Orkla group increased by 6.9% to 46.7 mln euros in 2016, while profit for the same period surged 31.2% to 5.5 mln euros, reports LETA.

Kalev's total sales by volume increased 12% to 10,481 tons, of which 91% was realized on the domestic market and 9% on various export markets, the company said in its annual report. Of the export volume 35% or 1.4 mln euros consisted of sales to Latvia, 29% or 1.1 mln euros to Norway, 14% of 558,976 euros to Finland and 11% or 420,992 euros to Russia.


Kalev continued investing in production equipment also in 2016. The size of the biggest individual investment was approximately one mln euros and it was spent for the purchase of a new packaging line. In 2016 Kalev had altogether 387 employees and the company's labor costs totaled 5.6 mln euros. The number of employees has increased by 14 on year, while labor costs grew 0.7% compared to the year before.
