"The main factor behind it was air temperature. The average air temperature in February 2016 was +0.6 degrees, compared with -2.3 degrees this year," told Kersti Tumm, head of communications and marketing at Eesti Gaas.

An equal amount of natural gas, 7.3 mln cubic meters, was sold to households in Estonia in both February 2016 and February 2017. Corporate customers bought 50.5 mln cubic meters last month and 49.1 mln cubic meters in February 2016.

In the first two months of the year Eesti Gaas sold 125.2 mln cubic meters of natural gas, compared with 148.3 mln cubic meters in the first two months of 2016. The difference is a result of the warmer January this year, as the average air temperature in that month exceeded the average air temperature of January 2016 by 5.4 degrees Celsius.

The use of natural gas in transport in the first two months of the year increased by 23.7% compared with 2016 - from 678,400 cubic meters to 839,300 cubic meters.

Electricity sales by Eesti Gaas totaled 4.3 gigawatt-hours in February. The amount doubled year over year and the number of customers buying electricity from Eesti Gaas quintupled.
