Latgale SEZ signs cooperation agreement with Vitebsk Free Economic Zone

During international conference Business in Daugavpils and Latgale Special Economic Zone (SEZ), a cooperation agreement between Latgale SEZ and Vitebsk Free Economic Zone (FEZ) in Belarus was signed, writes LETA.

The agreement was signed by Latgale Planning Region's administration head and Latgale SEZ administrator Iveta Malina-Tabune and Vitebsk FEZ administration head Sergey Yurkevich.


Also, an agreement has been signed between regional departments of the chambers of commerce and industry of both countries.


Latvian Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Kaspars Gerhards said at the conference that during the first two months of operation of Latgale SEZ, 15 investors have already applied. He voiced confidence that the Latgale program should be continued by implementing projects that are important for the national economy and residents of Latgale and Latvia.


Daugavpils mayor Janis Lacplesis  said that already now businessmen from different countries are working in the city, but Latgale SEZ will attract new business representatives to the city.


The conference was organized to inform business representatives of the region, all Latvia and foreign countries about the advantages offered by Latgale SEZ.


The conference attracted 200 participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine who are interested in business in the region. The conference was also attended by ambassadors of Russia, France and Lithuania.


Daugavpils is Latvia's second largest city, and it holds one third of business of the Latgale region.


The conference was organized by Daugavpils city council in cooperation with the Latgale Planning Region administration.
