Transportation of container cargos by LDz Logistika company, a subsidiary of Latvijas Dzelzcels state-owned railway company, increased significantly last year, the company's representative Ella Petermane told LETA.

She said that the number of containers sent to Latvia rose 2.1 times to 885 containers, while the number of containers shipped from Latvia rose by 93.2% to 5,892 containers.

"The rise in cargo transportation can be explained with rapid development of manufacturing in the Central Asian region (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan), allowing LDz Logistika to offer good routes for supplies of manufacturing equipment from Europe through Latvian ports and by rail to the recipient. Last year container cargos mostly transported equipment for textile manufacturing, poultry breeding and greenhouses," said Petermane.

In her words, transportation of oil products also increased last year. In cooperation with a partner in Russia, TransConteiner company, LDz Logistika has been able to ensure containers to customers in Europe, reducing costs and signing agreements on reloading of cargos in the Riga port.

Latvijas Dzelzcels is a state-owned railway company. Latvijas Dzelzcels group comprises the parent company, Latvijas Dzelcels, and six subsidiaries: LatRailNet, LDz Cargo, LDz Infrastruktura, LDz Ritosa Sastava Serviss, LDz Apsardze, and LDz Logistika.
