Power generation by Latvian hydro power plants up 26.3% in January-November

In the first 11 months of 2016, Latvia's hydro power plants generated by 26.3% more electric power than in the same period in 2015, according to the information from the Central Statistical Bureau writes LETA.

In the first 11 months of this year, the hydro power plants in Latvia generated 2.216 bln kWh of electric power compared to 1.755 bln kWh of electric power in January-November 2015. The highest amount - 385 mln kWh - was generated in April, while the smallest amount - 77 mln kWh - was generated in January.


Combined heat and power generation (cogeneration) plants generated 3.332 bln kWh of electric power in the first 11 months of 2016, up 7.4% from January-November 2015 when the cogeneration plants generated 3.103 bln kWh of electric power. The highest amount - 586 mln kWh - was generated in January, and the smallest amount - 178 mln kWh - in August.


Wind farms in Latvia produced 108 mln kWh of electric power in the first 11 months of 2016 at a 14.3% drop from 126 mln kWh in January-November 2015. The highest amount - 15 mln kWh - was generated in October, while the smallest amount - 5 mln kWh - was generated in May.


In 2015, hydro power plants in Latvia generated 1.868 bln kWh of electric power, cogeneration plants produced 3.522 bln kWh and wind farms 147 mln kWh.
