Fils and Bernis top Latvia's rich list for fifth year in a row

or the fifth year in a row, ABLV Bank owners Olegs Fils and Ernests Bernis top the ranking of Latvia's 100 wealthiest persons, collated by journalists Lato Lapsa and Kristine Bormane, magazine Kapitals, corporate finance company Laika Stars, and Lursoft.

Compared to 2015, the worth of Fils' assets has decreased EUR 4 mln and is now at EUR 310 mln. Bernis is worth EUR 307 mln - also EUR 4 mln down on 2015.

Rietumu Banka majority shareholder Leonids Esterkins is third this year with assets worth a total of EUR 250 mln, EUR 16 mln less than last year.


Router and wireless ISP system developer Mikrotikls co-owner Arnis Riekstins is in fourth place in the ranking with assets worth EUR 150 mln, or EUR 65 mln more than in 2015. Rietumu Banka co-owner Arkadijs Suharenko is fifth with assets worth EUR 128 mln, an EUR 8 mln decrease from 2015.


Justs Nikolajs Karlsons, the successor to the Bergs fortune, is in sixth place (EUR 80 mln), gaming company Alfor co-owner Janis Zuzans is in seventh place (EUR 69 mln), pharmaceutical company Olainfarm largest shareholder Valerijs Maligins is ranked eighth (EUR 52 mln). Marcis Martinsons, who owns several companies, is ninth on the list (EUR 50 mln), and wood industry company AKZ owner Uldis Asars is tenth (EUR 45 mln).


The total value of Latvia's 100 richest persons has been decreasing for two years in a row. While the total worth of the ten most wealthy residents of Latvia has increased to EUR 1.74 billion this year from EUR 1.41 billion a year ago, the total worth of the other ninety has continued to fall, commented Lapsa.
