Number of residents in Riga Planning Region to grow to 1.1 mln by 2030
Riga Planning Region's representative Ansis Krumins said that in 2030 the administrative role of the Riga
Planning Region in the Baltic economy is expected to grow. Unemployment level
in the coming years might shrink by 5%, while GDP per capita could amount to EUR
15,000, which would be by 3% higher than at present.
The number of active companies and innovative companies
might grow by 30%. Also, the role of International Airport Riga is expected to
grow, and the number of passengers is expected to reach EUR 7.5 mln and the
number of direct flight should rise by 25%.
The region's development should take place in an environmentally
friendly way as the share of renewable energy resources might amount to 50%,
and the number of cyclists should grow by one fifth. The region will also
become safer as experts predict that the crime rate might drop by one fifth, as
well as the number of road accidents.
The development vision has been based on the Riga Planning
Region's regional development documents - Sustainable Development Strategy for
2014-2030, and Development Program for 2014-2020.
