Latvian food company Spilva which belongs to Norway’s Orkla doubled its exports to Ukraine in the first half of this year, exports to the United Kingdom increased 50% and exports to Ireland 17.3%, LETA was told at the company.

Previously Spilva’s exports to Ukraine declined due to external and internal political situation in Ukraine but in the first half of this year exports to Ukraine soared 105.5% compared to the same period in 2015.

"This year we put on the Ukrainian market six new products - salad dressings. In view of the Ukrainian embargo on imports of Russian-made products, Latvian products successfully find their way to consumers [in Ukraine],” said Dana Ercina-Uzane, Marketing Director of Orkla Foods Latvija.

Spilva’s exports to the United Kingdom and Ireland where many Latvian nationals live and work continued growing also this year.

The biggest export markets for products made by Orkla Foods Latvija, mainly under Spilva and Gutta brand names, in the first half of this year were Estonia, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. The company exports its products also to the United States, Denmark, Ireland, Canada, Russia, the United Kingdom, Norway, Slovakia, Finalnd, Sweden, Ukraine and Germany.

Norwegian food group Orkla bought Latvia’s NP Foods group in August 2014 and decided to merge Latvian food companies NP Foods, Laima, Staburadze and Latfood into one company, Orkla Confectionery&Snacks Latvija, while merging Latvian companies Spilva and Gutta into Orkla Foods Latvija.

According to Firmas.lv, Orkla Foods Latvija in 2015 posted a profit of EUR 1.61 mln on a turnover of EUR 24.39 mln compared to EUR 1.39 mln and EUR 21.58 mln respectively in 2014.
