Latvian Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement to be presented to Janis Rokpelnis

In 2016, the annual Latvian Literature Award for lifetime achievement will be presented to poet and author Janis Rokpelnis, the Latvian Literature Award jury's member Ilmars Slapins informed the media on March 21st, cites LETA.

The Special Achievement Award will go to poet Uldis Berzins for translation of the Poetic Edda from Old Norse into Latvian, published by the Janis Roze publishing house.

 

The Latvian Literature Award ceremony will be on April 21 at the Spikeri Concert Hall. The jury includes critic Anda Baklane, writer Arvils Kolmanis, philosopher Ilmars Slapins, literary historian Austra Gaigala, poet Aivars Eipurs, journalist Liega Piesina, literary scientists Lita Silova and Sandra Ratniece, and poet Artis Ostups.

 

The Latvian Literature Awards ceremony is the key event in Latvian literature. The ceremony has been held annually since 2001, the main organizers are the Association of Latvian Writers and the International Writers and Translators' House.
