Mobile operators' revenue growth stabilizes Lithuania's market

BC, Vilnius, 12.11.2015.Print version
Growth of Lithuanian mobile phone operators' revenue is good for the entire telecommunications market and the economy as a whole, an analyst said on November 12th, cites BNS/LETA.

"The market in 2015 will post growth in terms of revenue for the first time after a long period (of decline). We see growth this year after six successive years of contraction since 2008," Rokas Salasevicius, a partner with the consultancy Civitta, said at a news conference.

"This is good news for the Lithuanian economy and the sector itself, because when we looked at the downward trends in revenue, the question arose as to when it would fall to a level where the operators would be unable to cover their investments," he said.

According to Salasevicius, the market's total revenue rose by 9% in the three quarters year-on-year and operators' revenue from services were up by 3%.

"The sector is recovering, which is good for the economy, because higher taxes are paid and the sector becomes more stable and more competitive," he said.

Omnitel posted an 8.6% year-on-year increase to 34.2 million euros in total revenue for the third quarter, with service revenue up by 6.3% to 24.7 million euros.

Bite Lietuva's third-quarter revenue jumped by 12% to 34.7 million euros and Tele2 achieved 7.3% growth to 44.2 million euros.

Lithuania's total mobile service revenue came in at 110.1 million euros in the first half of this year, down 1% year-on-year, according to the latest figures from the Communications Regulatory Authority.
