According to TNS Emor, 294,000 people in the age of 4 years or older watched Estonian Public Broadcasting's (ERR) new Russian-language television channel ETV+ for at least one minute during the first week it was on air, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Estonians amounted to 217,000 viewers (25.7% of the target group) and non-Estonians 77,000 (20.7% of the target group). According to the Internet pages visiting statistics measurement system TNS Metrix data, the ETV+ website had on the 40th week more than 31,000 visitors.

"ETV+ is not a project for ratings, but a long-term mission, which makes Estonia stronger and healthier and living better here. Thus initially emotional discussions over viewer numbers should be left aside. Something else is important, that ETV+ is an initiative which is written about by publications worldwide, and all European diplomats talk about. It is not an adventure or doubtful step – it is a very strong message and an act of good will, which makes the whole Estonian Public Broadcasting stronger," said board member ERR Ainar Ruussaar.

ERR launched at the end of September this year its Russian channel, which aims to provide objective information about what is going on in Estonia and in the world and also engage, inspire, educate and entertain, and do it all in Russian.
